WHY CHARACTER MATTERS is a real-world education about social issues and how dangerous their impact can be. MLB Agent & speaker Mark Leinweaver presents this intense 30-minute assembly to ALL students at high schools and middle schools nationwide.
This motivational passion project is offered on the side of his 24/7 full-time agent job, where he manages over 75 Major League players & prospects – including All-Stars – and deals with these topics every day. This program provides major value in adolescent development.
Mark stresses the importance of character and outlines key elements to a student’s
Core of Character.
1. Social Media Dangers & Consequences
Social Media: You must be cognizant of what you post, like, dislike and comment on. Everything is monitored on a minute by minute basis. It doesn’t matter if it’s been deleted. When mistakes are made, it’s not enough to apologize or be suspended. There are dire consequences that could affect your overall standing in community. Social media is something that you hold in your hands and can access from your fingertips at any given moment. It is an extremely dangerous weapon.
2. Be Brave In Behavior
Brave In Behavior: If you see something, say something. If you hear someone, tell someone. Being brave isn’t easy and often requires a leadership role that most others won’t take. If you see or hear behavior that you believe isn’t right, it’s YOUR responsibility to share it with an adult. Saying you “didn’t doing anything” is just that - you didn’t do “anything”. Be brave and do the right thing. Speak up.
3. Students Need To Volunteer
Volunteer: It’s not hard to be selfless and kind. There are many organizations in your community, namely Special Needs and Anti-Bullying groups, seeking students to volunteer and assist their cause. Special Needs examples include Unified Special Olympics and the Miracle League, both of which have chapters throughout the country. Mallory’s Army – an anti-bullying organization – offers inspiring ways for students to make a real difference through kindness in everyday life. These organizations, and many more like them, are available in every state.

4. Anti-Bullying Leadership
Bullying: This unacceptable behavior has become a very real and tragic epidemic in our society. Through social media and smart phones, it continues to worsen and MUST be stopped. As a student, you have a social responsibility to be part of the solution - not the problem - to end this difficult daily issue. That starts with you - being a leader - everyday.
5. Why It’s Vital NOW
Why Now: Because if not now, when? We can’t wait any longer and live in a minute by minute world. There’s not a second to spare. Our Core of Character is on-call 24/7. Be proactive - not reactive.
